The Stwlan Dam is one of those secrets that North Wales keeps close to its chest. Spectacular views (on a good day) and alpine style switch backs that road cyclists dream of. But this isn’t the Alps or the Pyrenees, this is Tan y Grisiau, just down the road from Blaenau Ffestiniog. An area forged from a slate mining industry that’s littered with relics and treasures just waiting to be discovered.
On July 6th 2013 Road cyclists from across North Wales and probably further afield will congregate at this little know but iconic climb to race up the privately owned road free from traffic, but not from sheep, against the clock.
Once you pin that number on your back there’s no going back, riders will almost instantly hit the limit of their abilities, heart rates will rise within a few seconds, from there on they must maintain and withstand a constant level of self inflicted pain until they reach the summit.
Antur Striniog have gained permission from First hydro to stage the event on this mythical road and CSM would like to thank those involved.
